To Veil or Not to Veil? How to Answer that Question
Hey friends!
Happy wedding Wednesday! Today, we're chatting about veils and let me start off by mentioning that it's totally fine if you don't want to wear a veil. Even though over 70% of brides do, you choose what works for you!
First I'll share the different styles of veils, so you know what you're working with. Then we will move into colours and other details to see which veil works best for you... or not! Either way, once you finish reading this post, you'll know if you will Veil or Not Veil.
Blusher Veil
This is for you if you want a big reveal during the ceremony, because it conceals your face as you walk down the aisle. This style of veil is paired with a longer veil at the back and is for the more traditional bride. Your face is revealed by your partner when you make your way to the front of the aisle or right up until your first kiss!
Double Tier Veil
This is for you if you want to have the first tulle layer to cover your face (blusher veil) or to add more volume to your veil. If you choose to have a double tier veil, it doesn't mean you have to place the first layer over your face, you can simply have both layers at the back giving your veil more drama.
Mid-Length Veil
This is for you if you want your veil to outline your upper body for a flattering silhouette. These lengths can include the fingertip veil and elbow-length veil. These styles work well when you would like a more traditional look.
Birdcage Veil
This is for you if you want to add a vintage feel to your look. It only covers part of your face and attaches to either a headband or a comb. This style works well if you have a modern dress or even a jumpsuit.
Skirt Veil
This is for you if you want to be different and don't want anything clipped to your hair. The skirt veil is attached to your dress and trails slightly behind giving you the same look as the chapel veil, except the back of your dress is totally visible. Or if you are going for something more modern like the jumpsuit below, your back will be showing. This style works well with wedding dresses with intricate details on the back that you don't want to keep hidden under a veil.
Chapel Veil
This is for you if you want your veil to fall all the way to the floor just past your dress hemline. This style is formal and traditional. You can usually see these style of veils with embroider edges, or if you want a modern and minimal look you'll keep the raw edge.
Cathedral Veil
This is for you if you want to make a statement and are going for the more classic look. The veil extends past your dress and will gracefully trail behind as you make your way down the aisle.
Colours
By now you may know what style of veil you would like, but now you have to think about the colour. You have a few options to choose from since most veils come in white, ivory, champagne or pale pink. It's best to choose a veil that works well with your wedding dress or jumpsuit. Keep in mind most wedding dresses are a light ivory but is usually mistaken for white. This is a problem, because the white veil will appear to be glowing next to the soft shade of ivory. Whatever you do, before you buy your veil, try it on with your dress to make sure they compliment each other.
Embellishments
These would be the trim or beading on your veil - think crystals, pearls, lace, etc. You don't have to perfectly match the design to your dress, but do keep in mind that they should complement each other, so I'm going to mention it again... try on your veil with your dress before you purchase it. You don't want to go home, try it on and realize it's NOT going to work.
By now you probably have a good idea of what your style of veil will be, so next you just need to consider your wedding day hairstyle and if you will be adding any accessories to your bridal look, like a hairpiece or crown. I'll be sharing more about those topics on another upcoming blog post, so do come back to get all the details!
