When Should I Send Out My Wedding Invitations?

A question we get asked often from our couples, so we thought it would be the perfect time to share this key wedding detail.

Ideally, you want to send out your wedding invitations six to eight weeks before. This rule applies if you are hosting your wedding in town. This gives enough time for guests to decide if they can attend, especially if they need to rearrange their schedule, like finding a babysitter if it’s an adults only event.

You don’t want to send them out too early, like 3-4 months before, because your guests will most likely misplace your pretty invite, or simply forget to rsvp. What does that mean for you? Following up with WAY more guests then you should, and adding more stuff to your to do list is not suggested when you’re planning a wedding. Don’t you agree?

Now, what if you’re having a destination wedding, when should you send out your invitations? Happy you asked, because it’s a much different scenario. You want to give your guests much more time to make arrangements, so it’s suggested to let guests know at least 4-6 months before.

Since we’re talking wedding invitations, we thought it would be great to talk about your rsvp date as well. When should you have guests rsvp to your wedding? If you have one list (like no A list and B list), then it’s suggested to have your rsvp date about 1 month before your wedding. This gives you enough time to organize your seating plan, get your details to your venue and/or catering, along with the rest of your vendor team. It also gives you time to follow-up with any guests that didn’t reply, and trust us, there’s always that handful of guests who fall under that category, unfortunately.

If you have more then one list, then you’ll want to make your rsvp date a bit earlier, which would be about 6-8 weeks before. This will give you enough time to send out your second round of invitations without making those guests feel like they were on the B list.

For your B list rsvp date, you can push it to about 3 weeks if you need to. However, 4 weeks is a good spot, so you can organize all the details without leaving everything to the last minute. The month before your wedding tends to be busy, so the more you can get done earlier, the better.

If you do book a wedding planner, you’re in great hands because they’ll be able to organize all these details for you. This will 100% make your life much easier and way less stressful, so why not get in touch today and see if we have your date available? We’d love to hear from you!
