Baby Shower Bliss - Event Decor Toronto
It felt like yesterday I was just announcing to family and friends that I was pregnant, and before I knew it, the day was finally here to host my baby shower!
Being in the industry and planning so many unique events, it was a nice change to plan my own special celebration. As always, the details were very important and I wanted to make it extra special, so designing specific elements of the event was a must.
Months before my shower, Claudia hosted a small gender reveal party , so knew she was expecting a boy!
She didn’t want it to be the typical baby shower (you know with the pacifiers and rattles, sort of thing. But definitely to include some beautiful new pieces that were recently added to our decorm rentals), so opted for a soft colour palette that would compliment the overall tone of the event. It was a day to celebrate Baby Faustino and his new parents-to-be, Claudia and Paulo.
Shades of blue, white, with a mixture of greenery and gold accents were used throughout the design. From the invites and day of stationery that i designed myself, to the floral arrangements and cake table, those details continued throughout, to create a cohesive look.
As guests arrived, they were welcomed with a 'Mom-osa Bar' filled with a selection of juices and fruit garnishes. They were also encouraged to play games like, 'Guess the Storybook', 'What Did Mommy and Daddy Say?' and one of our favourites, 'Baby Price is Right'.
The floor plan is something to always carefully consider when hosting an event, as it’s all about the flow. You want guests to naturally make their way to their seats, and that’s up to you, the host, to determine what they pass by on their way there.
For example, I wanted guests to have a drink, enjoy some appetizers, and maybe even snack on some Kernels popcorn before they even sat down, so it was best to place those stations at the entrance, so they wouldn't be missed upon arrival.
Because I wanted guests to mingle, I designed a small area that included event decor like cruiser tables, which allowed guests to enjoy their food and drink while catching up with others. This layout set the tone for the baby shower, as it encouraged people to move around, rather than everyone coming in and going straight to their seats for lunch. I wanted it to be a relaxing, yet social environment.
Kids were invited to the baby shower, so to make them feel equally part of the celebration, a “Kids Only” lounge was setup with activities to keep them entertained. It included puzzles, colouring pages, stickers, cards and play dough. Having a designated kids area kept their activities contained, while allowing the parents to enjoy the baby shower as well.
To utilize the space as best as possible, long tables were mixed with rounds. This worked well with the event space and was also very pleasing to the eye in regards to design. To enhance the head table, a boxwood backdrop from Boxed by Co. was draped with a white and blue balloon garland adorned with fresh flowers and a gold chrome “It's A Boy” sign. It made the table a focal point of the room and was also the perfect backdrop for photos.
Light and dark blue pillar candles were placed in modern gold containers from Flowerly in between her floral arrangements, that sat upon a dusty blue chiffon runner. The blue water goblets from The Perfect Table added the perfect pop of colour against the textured white linens provided by Chair Decor.
For the guest tables, the event decor was a bit different with them having no chiffon runner and tapered candles instead. Mixing decor elements like this is very pleasing to the eye and differentiates the “special” tables, if you will.
All place settings consisted of our new event decor Toronto items like our custom powder blue cutlery and gold rim chargers. Chair Decor's blue napkins were hand tied and placed beside mini favour boxes filled with Hershey kisses (baby blue of course to keep with the theme). Making sure to add special details throughout the event, I made my own gold wax seals with the letter F to seal the favour boxes and tags that read “Kisses from Baby Faustino”. (soooo cute, right?)
We also can't forget about our newest item to our event decor Toronto, our stunning Gold Florence chairs, as they truly added an elegant touch to the overall design.
As lunch was served, a few table games were played to keep guests entertained between courses. There was “Name that Baby Tune” where a song with baby was played for a few seconds and guests had to work with their table to guess the name of the song and artist. Another game played in partners, was the “Baby Boy Name Game” which was a race to provide boy names from A-Z. This was a great game to play since Claudia and Paulo didn’t have a name picked out, and now had lots of names to choose from once the game was finished.
Desserts are always needed for any event, and I wanted to have a wide variety of delicious goodies for guests to help themselves to. The desserts included a selection of La Rocca cakes, homemade cookies, tarts, brownies and more from my amazing family, hand painted cookies (that were seriously to pretty to eat) from Baking Up Treble along with a simple, two tier pumpkin spice latte cake, that was the perfect treat for a fall celebration. The delicious desserts were all placed on a variety of our event decor Toronto items like gold glass boxes, white cake stands and mini cupcake holders.
The gold “Oh Baby” cake topper was made by myself, as well as the unique blue table the cake and cookies were displayed on. Would you believe the cake table was an old vanity table from my mother that I refurbished? It was the perfect way for me to add my special touch while also designing a unique decor piece.
I love to create custom pieces, whether it’s for my own events or our clients' celebrations. If you want to add that wow factor to your next event, visit our rental page to see all the event decor rentals we have available.
As the baby shower came to an end, guests took home baby succulents as their favours. Flowerly did an amazing job sourcing the prettiest succulents and modern white vases to match the theme. It also made for a great keepsake for guests, and now the succulent I took home is in the nursery. How special is that !
