The Black Tie Wedding Colour Palettes Defining 2027
Colour remains the single most influential decision in a black tie wedding, tying together florals, stationery, lighting, and attire into one cohesive story.
Here are the palettes we are building for our 2027 couples.
Midnight Navy, Antique Gold
This remains the definitive black tie palette, and for good reason. Navy and gold read as formal in nearly any setting.
For 2027, the navy is trending darker, closer to true midnight, while gold tones are warming and softening, moving away from anything bright or brassy toward something that feels aged.
This palette suits multi day destination celebrations particularly well, carrying across all stages of a celebration. Couples planning multi-day affairs often appreciate that they can shift the emphasis, more navy for daytime, more gold for evening, without ever straying from a cohesive design.

For couples who want the formality of black tie without its coolness, this jewel toned combination introduces warmth and a romantic flair.
Deep red and light pink rose, white linens with black accents and taper candles with a soft pink hue create a room that feels intimate even at scale.

This palette is especially popular for autumn and winter black tie weddings, and for couples choosing candlelit indoor venues over open air settings.
Dusty Blue, Soft White And Silver
Not every black tie wedding calls for the weight of a ballroom. For coastal and garden destinations, this softer palette allows the dress code to remain formal while the setting stays light and airy.
It is a favourite for black tie weddings along the Amalfi coast, in Santorini, and Lake Como.
Our couple Yalda and Nick chose for their wedding to take place at Lakeview Garden Eaton Hall in Toronto. Persian traditions were thoughtfully woven into an ethereal, European-inspired aesthetic, creating a timeless celebration.
Espresso Brown, Champagne, and Earthier Bronze

A newer direction gaining momentum for 2027 is a warmer, earthier take on black tie. Espresso brown paired with champagne and bronze metallics creates a rich, grounded palette that photographs beautifully in golden hour light.

Our clients Katusha and Kevin's wedding day was the perfect blend of this black tie colour palette with a modern Toronto elegance twist.
Black Tie Attire Trends for 2027
For Brides
Bridal fashion for black tie weddings in 2027 is leaning into drama, with sculptural silhouettes, detachable elements that let you have two wedding looks; a gown from ceremony and reception, and a return to statement sleeves and dramatic trains for formal evening ceremonies.
Metallic threading and subtle shimmer fabrics are appearing more frequently, allowing brides to remain within black tie formality while catching candlelight in a distinctly modern way.
For Grooms

Perhaps the most notable shift we are seeing heading into 2027 is in groom's attire. The plain black tuxedo is no longer the entire story.
Suiting fabrics are also expanding beyond classic black and midnight navy, with subtle sheen finishes and unexpected tones such as deep green or dusty rose appearing on grooms who want their attire to feel considered rather than default.

For Guests
Guests attending a black tie wedding in 2027 can expect dress codes that remain traditional in spirit while allowing more room for individual style.
Floor length gowns, elegant jumpsuits, and tailored suiting all remain appropriate, with black continuing to be considered timeless and correct for guests.
We're also seeing guests lean into richer jewel-toned accessories, think emerald clutches or deep garnet ties, as a way of adding personality without breaking from the formality of the dress code.

Frequently Asked Questions About Black Tie Weddings in 2027
What is the difference between black tie and black tie optional? Black tie requires formal attire, tuxedos and floor length gowns, without exception. Black tie optional offers guests slightly more flexibility, allowing a dark formal suit in place of a tuxedo, though the overall expectation remains elevated and formal.
Can a destination wedding be black tie? Yes. In fact, many of the most memorable black tie weddings we design take place at destination venues, where the architecture and setting naturally lend themselves to formal elegance.
What colour work best for a black tie wedding in 2027? Midnight navy and antique gold remain the definitive choice, though jewel tones such as plum, burgundy, and emerald, along with warmer earth toned palettes, are trending strongly for 2027.
Is black an appropriate colour for a black tie wedding guest to wear? Yes. Black remains timeless and entirely appropriate for black tie wedding guests, provided the fabric and silhouette feel formal and elevated.
How far in advance should I plan a black tie destination wedding? We recommend beginning the planning process eighteen months to two years before the wedding date, particularly for popular destinations across Italy, France, and Portugal.
